As I was an only child with two parents who both worked in the sweatshops of New York, I spent a lot of time on my own going to the movies. In a sense they were both company and a diversion for me. When I first started to learn silkscreen printing in Montreal, Canada I thought it was the ideal medium to recreate images from the movies. So when I returned to the UK I set about building my own silkscreen studio. At first the images were made on a kitchen table. It took eight years until I could afford to buy a vacuum frame and print professionally. These images, together with the paintings, are from that time (1970’s), which was heavily influenced by Pop Art. Ellen Kuhn
